my earliest memory of doing the dishes, I was about 11 and my grandmother was sick (she usually did the dishes in the household) I decided to surprise her and let her get some rest. There were tons of dishes, and I knew my dish washing expertise wasn't up to Grandma's par. But I managed, and needless to say-it made her happy. So happy that I was assigned dish duty every other night until I graduated lol.

MY EARLIEST MEMORY OF DOING THE DISHES WHEN I WAS IN FIRST GRADE AND I HAD TO WASH AND MY SISTER HAD TO DRY THE SUPPER DISHES

Unknown said...

My earliest memory was at my Granny's house after Thanksgiving dinner. The women always headed to the kitchen and the men would head to the tv. I was young and I saw my cousin who was my age and a boy head to the couch. I was upset. I started a drama fest with its not fair I have to wash dishes etc. I got out of doing the dishes but now that I am older I wish I had done those dishes to just spend that extra 20 minutes with my wonderful Granny. I miss her so.

My earliest memory is having to take turns with my twin sister. We switched off every other day, but there were always "discrepancies" we would argue about. I miss the days when my biggest problem was doing a couple of last night's dinner dishes at breakfast!

My earliest memory of dishwashing was when my Dad announced at the dinner table one night when I was about 10 that henceforth my brother and I would be the official family dishwashers. At first we had a one wash one dry scenerio but usually ended up fighting over whose turn it was to wash and whose turn it was to dry so Dad affixed a running calendar over the sink and then we would each do washing and drying alone on appointed days. Did that until I married 9 years later and left the chore to my brother who was two years younger than I and he did them for a couple more years until he went off to college. Then we bought Mom a dishwasher that she never used because she considered it more bother than doing them herself. Who knew?

I started helping with the dishes in second grade. My mother had moved out so the dishes were left to my older sister and I.

I don't have any memory of NOT doing dishes. I helped my grandma at her house, with a little towel tied around my waist while I rinsed.

I remember doing dishes when I was very young. I came from a family of all girls and I am the oldest. We had a dishwashing chart that we marked our name off of when we washed the dishes. I hated to wash the breakfast dishes, especially if eggs were scrambled.

We didn't have a dishwasher growing up so my sister & I had to wash & dry dishes. We took turns but always hating drying the most because you had to put everything away!

I remember I'd do the cups, my sister Belinda the plates and spoons (I think) and Daniela (the oldest) the pots and pans...we did have times we would take turns, but like Daniela said, I would cry and they would do them.

My earliest memory of doing the dishes had to be when I was about 7. My baby sister had just been born, so my mom said I had to help with the chores and made dishes my nightly task. Not the best call; I sucked at it. A 7 year old does not have enough attention to detail. :)

I can remember helping my Mom and Mamaw when I was really small. Mamaw would tie and apron around me and stand me on a chair so that I could clean all the forks and spoons (large family so there were lots). I would also help dry. By the time I was 7, I was able to do dishes by myself, except for the knives.

My earliest memory of doing the dishes was that I hated doing them. If a dish was too dirty, I'd stash it away and hide it or "accidently" break it. Now, dishes is just one of the things my life revolves around and I find it a little relaxing. Thanks for the contest! codisweepstakes2 (@) gmail(dot)com

I don't have an earliest memory but I always helped my mom do the dishes. I was the "dryer" and we would have the best conversations while she washed and I dried. In fact, when I visit, we still do that today.

The kitchen was my mom's domain, so I didn't do any dishes until I was an adult that I can recall. I remember having the wash dishes in the bathroom sinks in college, that was less than fun. lol

My first memory of doing the dishes was when I was learning how to do a cooking demonstration for 4-H at some lady's house I had never met before. Well, after we were done we had to wash our own dishes and I did but apparently I didn't do a good enough job because the lady freaked out and yelled at me and it was pretty traumatic :( Of course now I am very very particular about the dishes being spotless!

I remember going to my Granny's when I was really young and me and my cousins were going to help her with the dishes, as if we didn't behave and help, we would get in trouble. So all of us cousins, Granny watched like 8 of us on a daily basis, decided to take the dishes to the bathtub cause none of us could reach the sink. She, Granny, was putting our littlest cousins down for their naps after lunch, we took all the dishes to the tub and we put on our bathing suits and we washed them all as we played in the bubbles. Do you know how many bubbles you can get in a tub by pouring the dish soap under the running water? HaHa! We did real good, until Granny came in and found all 6 of us girls in the tub, with her, as she called them, "good dishes". She helped us all out and then we had to go rinse off outside in the small pool, she didn't tell our parents until some time later, in fear that we'd get in trouble, but she did ask us "NOT" to "help" her do the dishes, unless she helped.

My earliest memory of doing the dishes was one Thanksgiving at my aunt's house. She had a dishwasher that somehow got put into the middle of the room, and it made the whole kitchen hot. It was my job to help dry the dishes while my mother and aunt washed the dishes and talked a mile a minute.

And if we baked, we were responsible for that clean-up too. And we were baking from an early age, probably 10 years old was the earliest we did dishes.
